Gmail Spring Cleaning
2007-08-08
Here are a few tips on cleaning up your Gmail
- Delete your spam
Gmail deletes spam automatically, but if you're wanting to clean the slate completely, then this is the first step to take.
- Delete the oldest unread messages first
Query for the oldest unread messages by entering the following in the search box:
is:unread before:2007/07/01(In this example I want to see all unread messages sent to me before July 1st, over a month ago)
- Delete all messages pertaining to Friend Requests, Welcome emails, shopping confirmations, policies you may receive on social networking, shopping, or forum sites.
subject:"Welcome to"
subject:"Order Confirmation"
subject:"Policy"
subject:"Join my"
subject:"Verify your" - Delete emails pertaining to one time contacts that you no longer keep in touch with at this time.
from:"John Doe" - Delete any old reminders you may have sent to yourself that no longer apply.
from:"Brian M" AND to:"Brian M" - Delete all old emails you no longer need:
in:anywhere before:2007/05/01(In this example I'm selecting all emails sent at least three months ago)
Hopefully, by now you have less email accumulating in your Gmail box.
